Programming Java for Navision Systems by XML
Java has taken the world with storm. Together with the world wide acceptance of XML as the defacto standard for communication between computers, and with the more and more flexible tools for generating, transmitting, receiving and recovering data transmitted both in clear and in encrypted (secure) mode via XML, via tool boxes like JAXP, via frameworks like SOAP, it has become the obvious choice.

The question of use of programming tools together with accounting is more than 40 years old. The first computers was used for military applications. Shortly after second world war, computers found a much more peaceful use in the commercial and especially economical sector for calculations, forecasts and so on. Some of the strongest accounting softwares was PC-Plus, developed by PC & C in Denmark, back in the early 1980's. It developed fast into Navigator in the 90's, then it became Navision in the early millenium, and was turned into an ERP tool by start millenium, and was finally sold to Microsoft for a figure, resembling more than 100 billion Kenya Shillings. Today Navision is on its way into all sorts of businesses in Kenya, it is low-cost, highly effective - but first and foremost - it can integrate, via its strong capabilities, also in XML.

Accountants have realised, that if they learn programming, they can make many accounting packages more efficient by automating the accounting production, for instance when producing financial statements for their clients they are working for. That can increase the throughput of accounts, and increase earnings without increasing staff. We have examples from Denmark, where accountants who learn programming, increase their throughput with more than 300%, while maintaining provenue on a per client basis. Automating certain parts of the accounting package also reduce errors.
